January end

So we have come to the end of the first month of 2007. So far 2007 is being non-committal over what it's going to bring me in the next 11 months. It's too soon to pass judgement as to how this year is shaping up.

I had a job interview on Friday. There are 2 permanent positions and 5 18-month contract positions open. Since I'm only an intern I'm not feeling too confident about getting any of the jobs. The majority of the people in my department are on contract and everyone is fighting tooth and nail for the very limited permanent positions that are available.

I was warned when I started this internship that most people spend their life on contract these days. The idea is not appealing for anyone I am sure. How does one have a life when they are constantly on contract? Sadly, it is the reality of living in this age. Most people will never have a permanent job.

I guess we'll see what happens.
